Disciples 4 Christ Volunteer Outreach Program
Disciples 4 Christ is a coalition of ministries under the direction of Susan Neyra. Committed volunteers, combined with the power of the Holy Spirit, provide invaluable services and support to inmates and their families. Through worship services, crusades, and prayer, it is our objective to empower inmates with the Word of God so that they become disciples for Christ while incarcerated and beyond.
Through our programs we encourage inmates to understand that they can have a successful, purposeful prison term through the empowering love and forgiveness of Christ. We also teach life skills and recovery classes, provide re-entry resources, and strengthen family bonds so inmates can lead productive lives within the gates and when they return to society.
Transformed by faith
Romans 12:2 — “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.”
By teaching inmates to seek and know God’s will, we encourage them to be transformed by the miraculous power of faith: faith in God, faith in Christ, faith in the Word, and faith in themselves.
Romans 10:17 — “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.”
How can I get involved?
Thank you for your interest in Disciples 4 Christ! Our volunteers come from all walks of life and volunteer for all kinds of reasons. Our prison outreach ministry is successful because of our dedicated volunteers. New volunteers: follow these steps to read the required materials and apply. Former inmates should first review the requirements below.

02 — Submit your D4C application
Complete the D4C Online Volunteer Application Form. The original guidance allows a volunteer to minister within the gates four times before completing TDCJ volunteer training. If you feel called to continue, complete the training and submit your TDCJ application. Confirm current requirements with our coordinator.

04 — Let us know you’re approved
Once you receive an email from TDCJ Volunteer Services confirming your approval, notify our D4C Volunteer Coordinator.
Attention former inmates
Being a former inmate will not keep you from volunteering within the gates of TDCJ, but there are requirements to meet before volunteering. Please confirm current eligibility with TDCJ and our coordinator.
Special guest or guest speaker
To enter as a special guest, you must have been out for at least 6 months.
Approved volunteer
To become a TDCJ-trained volunteer, you must have been out for at least 12 months. Applications submitted before 12 months will be held until you are eligible.
Gather your supporting documents
Prepare a current letter from your parole officer or a copy of your Parole Certificate if you are off supervision, plus a letter from your pastor on church letterhead recommending you to volunteer within the gates. Email these documents to TDCJ Volunteer Services, then proceed to Step 1 above.
